Public Space – Rue Eddy
Transitional space
The City of Gatineau has mandated Le Comité to provide support and design services for a project to revitalize Eddy Street. The goal is to create temporary developments on parking lots and underutilized sites on the commercial street between Wright and Papineau streets. These facilities contribute to the strategy to revitalize downtown Gatineau by strengthening the sense of belonging to the neighborhood, creating visual and formal coherence, and enhancing the use of public spaces.
The graphic and formal concept developed is inspired by the industrial past of Eddy Street, particularly the famous wood match factory that contributed significantly to the economic and social development of the Outaouais region beginning in the 1850s. Through a consultation process with local merchants and residents, in collaboration with various city departments, the customized developments meet the area’s current needs in terms of street furniture and the creation of social and cultural activity zones.

Mission
Conception, design, production
In order to address mobility and traffic calming issues, a bike path was built and three new facilities were created this summer on Eddy Street: multifunctional spaces for the general public, dedicated to meeting, gathering, relaxing, and even dining. These developments emphasize shade, greenery, and seating or occupancy capacity, with the aim of becoming important landmarks along Eddy Street.
