Chemin des Écores – Berges du Commodore
Transitional urban design
Since 2021, Le Comité has been assisting the City of Laval with a transitional development project for the Berge des Écores sector and the revitalization of the former Marina Commodore, a private plot of land recently acquired by the city. Through consultation and cooperation workshops, the development of the “Chemin des Écores,” to be finalized in the summer of 2023, aims to unify the area and encourage citizens to reclaim it through a series of urban interventions.
- A park: A series of contemplative installations accompanying the path along the Berge des Écores park.
- A beach: An urban beach transformed into a playground by adding logs within the ferry terminal and relaxation furniture around the perimeter.
- A shoreline: Development including terraces along the waterfront, furnished with furniture and shade structures, as well as the development of the terrace along the pavilion on the water side.

Mission
Conception, design, production
Facing the Prairie River, the waterfront area underwent a complete transformation following the demolition of the Marina building in the spring of 2023 to become a true public space. The site includes the development of terraces equipped with a range of furniture dedicated to play, discovery, and contemplation. The terraces offer a shaded linear path planted in a sandy area where various islands of raw hemlock logs and custom-made furniture provide a view and direct access to the river. The project also includes the integration of the former sales pavilion, which has been converted into a community space where various events, workshops, and exhibitions will be held over the next few years.
The unification of Chemin des Écores aims to gradually transform the area in order to support citizen reappropriation and access to the shoreline. The design of the various developments therefore incorporated the use of sustainable materials and the installation of a diverse range of furniture to support the current and future uses of the site, which is set to become a vast linear park in the coming years. The entire sector has also benefited from dedicated signage to reinforce the unification of the interventions carried out. Thanks to a process of consultation and implementation in stages, Chemin des Écores marks a strong and inspiring first step for the city in the conversion of its public spaces and waterfronts.
