Ombrelles – SDC Jean-Talon Est
Urban furniture
Winner of a call for proposals launched by the Société de développement Jean-Talon-Est in 2021, Les Ombrelles de Jean-Talon is a development project that combines signage and street furniture with the aim of making the commercial artery welcoming, dynamic, and attractive.
The goal is to mark the territory while promoting social interaction by innovatively greening the surroundings of Jean-Talon Street. Les Ombrelles are vertical structures anchored to the various types of green planters currently present on the street, allowing passersby to sit down and enjoy a spot of shade. Heat islands are one of the major issues in the area, and the creation of shade structures covered with greenery (native climbing plants) appears to be a solution well suited to the context.
Mission
Design, project management and production
These independent structures have the advantage of being modular and can therefore be deployed over a large area in the form of a route or grouped together to create stops. With Jean-Talon Street awaiting a major redevelopment project in the coming years, including the ongoing construction of metro stations, Les Ombrelles will be able to adapt to the different phases of deployment and the resulting construction sites.
