Signature furniture – Boulevard Cartier
Urban design
As part of a participatory budget initiative, the City of Laval commissioned Le Comité to design and implement a summer development project on Cartier Boulevard West in the Laval-des-Rapides sector. With the aim of enhancing the walking experience and adding a touch of color to the area, a new range of signature urban installations promoting both comfort and safety was created. The installations are located on the forecourt of the Émile Nelligan Library and at intersections along a section of the boulevard between Legrand and Lavoisier avenues.
Following a participatory workshop with local residents, mural artists, and city services, the proposal to beautify Cartier Boulevard is based on a change of perspective through a range of signature furniture and striking vertical signage. The design is based on the implementation of a series of interventions combining several uses with a dominant warm color scheme that aims to create a distinct identity throughout the area. The furniture elements interact with the various artistic murals by artists @berirouche, @sayehsarfarazonline, and @sarahgalarneau, notably by integrating works directly into the signage using the principle of anamorphosis. This integration offers a subtle and playful new design, combining urban furniture and art.

Mission
Conception, design, réalisation
The intervention interacts with existing infrastructure and takes the form of a path featuring a series of stations with varied shapes and uses. This new range of furniture, composed of bright red painted steel elements and incorporating the warm texture of roasted maple, invites passersby to stop and enjoy the nearby shops. This new archipelago of installations not only beautifies the area, but also invites pedestrians to discover and enjoy Cartier Boulevard in a different way.
